Welcome to the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program!

This free program encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she enters Kindergarten!  Studies show that children should hear at least 1,000 books from birth to age 5 to build the pre-reading skills they need to succeed in school.

The Denver Public Library wants to make sharing stories with your baby, toddler, or preschooler fun!  For every 100 books your child reads, they will receive a little incentive from the library!

Here is How the Program Works!

1. Register your child and receive your book bag and your first reading log to track your books.

2. After each set of 100 Books are read and recorded, bring your log into the library to receive a sticker, a small prize, and the next reading log.

Each time you reach 100 books, stop in for these rewards:

100 Books:  Sticker and Reading Duckie

200 Books:  Sticker and crayons

300 Books:  Sticker and Fun eraser

400 Books:  Sticker and I Love to Read Bracelet

500 Books:  Sticker and a Free Book!

600 Books:  Sticker and Pencil

700 Books:  Sticker and Play dough

900 Books:  Sticker and color book

900 Books:  Sticker and stuffed animal

When you and your child have finished reading and recording 1,000 books they will receive a free book and a certificate of completion.

The only deadline for this program is when your child starts Kindergarten, so take your time and enjoy the experience!
